Many of our clients today are finding a lack of teamwork and collaboration is impacting their ability to achieve results. Our fast-pace, use of technology and virtual relationships impact the ability to get the most out of being a team. The top challenges we find with teams today include:
(1) Lack of trusting relationships – we need to invest the time to build relationships of vulnerability-based trust (Five Dysfunctions of a Team, Patrick Lencioni).
(2) No shared goals – when you are not working towards a common goal that requires everyone to work together, you are a working group, not a team.
(3) Lack of loyalty to the team – especially in leadership roles we find loyalty most often is to your department or work group, rather than to the leadership team. “Who is your #1 team?” is a key question to discuss and establish clarity and to set the example that builds a culture of teamwork throughout your organization.
